Stacey had to work twice as hard as all of us to gain the respect of the men around her, and I am so glad she did, because she helped pave the way for the now greater than 50% of the Cornell Engineering class that are women. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSimilar to Stacey, Donna Strickland persevered, and was one of only three women to graduate from her Engineering Physics class in 1981 from McMaster University, and I am so glad she did. Work she published in 1985 was so important for humanity that she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2018. She made it possible for the world to have tabletop high-powered lasers, so that the utility of lasers could become widespread, such as in the millions of corrective laser eye surgeries done worldwide.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMy focus as an undergraduate was lasers and fiber-optics, and my Donna Earrings reflect my love of physics, my fascination with optics, and my admiration of lasers. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eI hope that like Donna, you see your strength and persevere to change the world, in spite of the obstacles in your way.\u003cimg src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/2444\/7101\/products\/9993c81d-7cd0-4420-9436-951d9e57d340.JPGcopy_78965d6a-0cc1-40e1-9b73-f357882356be_480x480.jpg?v=1665495745\" alt=\"\"\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eMy Favorite Parts of this Design\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI approached this design the same way I approach a physics problem: from first principles.
