{"title":"Bonbon Necklaces","description":"","products":[{"product_id":"cleopatra-bonbon-cocktail-necklace","title":"Cleopatra Bonbon Necklace","description":"\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eThe Story of Cleopatra\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEver since I was a boy, I have loved classical mythology.  I fell in love with the Greek versions of the myths, and was thirsty to learn their origins.  The more I looked into the pre-Hellenic world the clearer the matriarchal lineage became. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMythology survives with us as fictional stories, but there is one real life leader that inspired her own rich mythology: Cleopatra. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA female leader like Cleopatra seems exceptional today, but I like to imagine a time when a great leader like Cleopatra was not an exception, but the rule. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMy wife Sarah introduced me to the eye symbol, and even though it has had many meanings over the centuries, I like to believe the eye represents the strength of female leadership. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSarah was a natural leader, and there was no place that it was more clear than as a mother.  Under her patient and ever-watchful eye, she was able to see clearly, to empathize, and to protect her loved ones. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs a mother and as a leader, I believe these characteristics are a requirement for visionary leadership and that\u003cspan\u003e Cleopatra also led with these strengths.  Like Sarah and Cleopatra, I hope \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003emy design reminds you of how great a leader you can be too.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eMy Favorite Parts of this Design\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEyes have been reproduced in jewelry since before the ancient Egyptians, and it was very important for me to make my version unique. It wasn’t enough for me to interpret my Bonbon as an eye, I needed to push the design even more.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMost contemporary eye designs are a set of concentric circles, but as many of you know, that was just too simple for me. As a nod to the elegance and femininity of Cleopatra, I include eyelashes in the manner of the\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEye of Horus\u003c\/span\u003e, so prevalent and important in Egyptian iconography.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou might think I am completely irreverent for turning each of the stones upside down and reverse-setting them for this design, but in the process, I was forced to create a new geometry to support the unfamiliar reflections of these typically hidden facets, which I believe led me to a complete design that feels perfectly classical.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI must confess, I am in love with my Bonbon design. A good smile can make you smile too!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI think smiles are one of our superpowers, and in a world that often feels difficult and disconnected, even a stranger’s smile can make us feel better, sometimes even wonderful. \u2028\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLike the light from a disco ball, I like to think of a smile as radiating outwards, creating thousands of rays of light that touch everyone around you.  As the light of a smile reaches each of us, almost by magic, there is a good chance that we will be inspired to smile too.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMy wife Sarah was known for her smile, and its ethereal ability to light up a room. Her smile made the people around her comfortable, and created joy out of thin air.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSarah's sickness did not stop her from smiling, and it was impossible not to be wrapped in her love. I find that even today, when I remember Sarah’s smile, it brings me incredible joy. \u2028\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI designed my Disco Bonbon, to remind myself of how powerful a smile can be, and hopefully make you smile too.  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eMy Favorite Parts of this Design\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis design is a true celebration of stones and metals.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt’s rare to find reverse set stones matched with each of the four main precious metals, and like perfect diamonds, each array of stones captures the light around us and radiates it forth.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe simplicity of the pairings does not limit their lessons.
